VERONIKA LOBAREVA

EUPOPEAN LANDSCAPE

personal exhibition
October 7 - November 15, 2020
Irkutsk
art gallery Dias

Today the personal exhibition "Painting" of Veronika Lobareva is taking place in Irkutsk. This is a rare event at the present time. Most exhibitions around the world have moved online. Of course, it's great that we have the opportunity to see paintings by artists. It doesn't matter where we are - at home or at the North Pole. We need the Internet and a telephone only. Undoubtedly, a painting and the painting photo are incomparable neither to sensation, nor perception, nor the energy of this painting. But if there are no other options, we try to reproduce the atmosphere of a "live event" using photographs, videos and music. And Veronica answers our and your questions.
Everyone can open his online exhibition now. There are a lot of different web platforms. But if it is possible do an exhibition in the gallery. It's better to see the painting "alive". The personal exhibition is always a discovery for yourself and for people. This is the best experience to see your painting in a new space, "in general". And for people there is also the opportunity to communicate with the artist. Usually people try to get to the opening of the exhibition. But it's better to see painting in silence.

Why I have an ordinary name? "Veronika Lobareva. Painting." I don't like some pretentious. The subject of the exhibition is the European city landscape. A couple years ago, when this exhibition was planned, no one could have imagined that the world would change so much. My European series started 15 years ago. By the way, there is my painting of 2004 on the exhibition. The cityscape is my favorite genre. These are my travels, my memories, the places I have visited, and which are associated with some people ... This subject is endless.
There are about 100 paintings on my exhibition. One third of painting of a are from private collections, the rest of all were written in the last couple of years. The size are mainly chamber, large works are rare. I didn't have a task to write specifically for the exhibition. There are plein air painting. But mostly I work in my studio. You can see my works on Facebook or Instagram. For the exhibition I chose the most significant.

People who come to the opening of the exhibition want to see an artist. Sometimes there is an unexpected effect. When they see paintings only, they imagine the artist. And when they see a real artist, and their ideas do correspond to their expectations. Sometimes their attitude to the painting may change. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Don't to ask an artist what he had in mind and how he came to this way .... We can't to answer. See our paintings. The painting can't lie.
I don't like doing sketches. It's better for me to paint "a la prima". At first I paint for yourself. And then I want to share it with people. And it's better hurry up. During the exhibition is being prepared, some of the paintings are already becoming irrelevant for me. You outgrow your work, you move on. You see that now you would have painted it differently. Everything must happen on time.

My advice to artists who are planning to organize their exhibition in the gallery. The exposure should be done according to the contrast principle. The paintings should help each other, don't conflict with each other. They helped the "neighbor" to be better. Small ones are next to large ones, "cold" ones alternate with "warm". It is very interesting to play with the exposure that each painting takes right place. There are always main points in the space. The viewer follows a certain trajectory in each space. And you need to understand where to place the strongest paintings, weaker ones, larger ones, smaller ones. It depends on a specific space, a specific artist and lighting.

When the Internet was coming to our daily life, not all people had computers at home. I still remember pagers (not everyone even knows what is it) and the first mobile phones of my business friends. They did not fit into a pocket and weighed about a kilogram. A cell phone was an indicator of the status of its owner. It was very expensive to use it for calling. A mobile phone holder called a friend and quickly shouted: "Call me back now!" At the time online life was like a luxury. Years passed. A little bit of time. There are more computers at home than televisions. We study online, work online, even consult a doctor online. And now you are walking through the online exhibition of Veronica Lobareva, looking at your phone, perhaps on your way home, in the subway or in a cafe. Conveniently? Certainly. But the good old offline world is not available to everyone now. Live communication is like a luxury. This is already a fact and ... just don't forget about it.
